Description

Yamaha TDM 900 – from 2002 onwards

In 2002, Yamaha presented the TDM 900 as successor to the TDM 850, which had been in its programme since 1995. Thanks to a number of important improvements such as petrol injection, regulated catalytic converter, slightly increased engine performance and modern design, the TDM 900 was seen as much more than a spruced up 850. It became a model in its own right, a model that answered many buyers’ desire to see a high-quality engine paired with a narrow silhouette and trouble-free handling. The Yamaha TDM 900 is a sporty universal touring bike that can show its strengths equally well in urban settings as on rural roads or motorways. In this way, the TDM 900 has earned its reputation of being a faithful universal bike that serves its owner over many years when cared for properly. But despite optimum maintenance and care, there can be times on the streets of this world when a problem crops up and there is no Yamaha workshop nearby, and for that this book was written.

This handbook includes the following chapters:
· top test from “Motorrad” magazine
· large chapter with tips on the appropriate tools for the hobby workshop
· settings and care
· carrying out your own maintenance and servicing, with maintenance and mechanics’ tips
· all the approved tyres for the Yamaha TDM 900 from Avon, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Metzeler, Michelin and Pirelli
· professionally removing/replacing wheels
· caring for and maintaining the brakes
· adjusting the suspension and dampers for solo and pillion passenger riding
· adjusting and repairing the steering
· removing/replacing swingarm and suspension strut
· changing bulbs and fuses
· maintaining and charging the battery
· ignition system: troubleshooting and repair
· fuel system: checking and setting the air filter and injection system
· removing/fitting the exhaust system
· lubricating system: the right oil for the 2-cylinder bike, changing the oil yourself
· checking and adjusting valve clearance
· maintenance, care, dismantling and repair of the clutch and gears
· repairing the starter motor
· tightening torques of all screwed connections on the chassis and engine
· detailed troubleshooting guide with instructions and tips for repair
· extensive technical data, exact setting values and wear limits
· important addresses in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
· large-format switching diagrams as fold-out pages
